Most people would have already learned the importance of taking care of one’s skin. While we usually stick to certain products that suit our skin, over time, that skincare regime evolves – a lot like our skin. Being exposed to new environmental factors, ageing, and stress forces us to experiment with new skincare products.
Sometimes, it is also the temptation of knowing that there is an endless array of choices available out there, makes it hard for us to stick to just one product. Regardless, your skincare routine should contain the essential staples, starting with the cleanser. But should you only have one type of cleanser?
We’ll explore more on why you should consider rotating more than just one cleanser product every 2 weeks.
1. Using the right ingredients to match your skin concerns
If you’re concerned about your acne, a cleanser that is formulated with active ingredients to fight acne, such as salicylic acid, may be the right choice to help you deal with active breakouts. But one days where your face is relatively clear, you can opt for a gentler, lower-pH cleanser that won’t be too drying on your skin. It is a good idea to switch up products depending on what your skin is going through, so you can react better to your skin’s needs. One cleanser may not necessarily do the job, so look into the actives or start ingredients that the cleansers contain and see how it can address your current skin concerns.
Try our Auras Hudor Wash, suitable for dry and dehydrated skin, which helps to gently cleanse impurities and leaves the skin hydrated. The main ingredients, Allantoin and Sodium PCA, help to boost deep skin hydration and prevent any dryness, flakiness and irritation.
If you’re battling with skin pigmentation, our Aspure Gentle Wash contains anti-melanin properties and ingredients like Licorice Root Extract to boost your skin’s radiance and prevent dark spots. It is also formulated with Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant that is dubbed as the “king of carotenoid”. In clinical studies, it has been shown to reduce moisture loss, promote skin smoothness and cellular renewal. Astaxanthin contains UV-blocking properties to protect against sun-related damage that may contribute to skin ageing and wrinkles. Astaxanthin can be found across our Aspure series, including the Aspure Cream which has Jojoba oil, Squalene and Vitamin C to improve skin elasticity and firmness for a youthful visage.
2. Exfoliate the skin
Regular exfoliation plays a big role in improving cell turnover rate and removing dead, dry skin cells that leave your complexion looking dull and lackluster. These impurities and dead skin cells are also responsible for clogging your pores and causing breakouts when they get infected.
Thus, it’s crucial to incorporate an exfoliating cleanser that’s separate from your daily cleanser – one that can effectively slough off dead cells, dislodges excess oil and dead skin trapped in pores, and brighten dull skin. This will also help in better absorption and penetration of your serums and moisturisers to work effectively. Exfoliating cleansers should be used sparingly to avoid causing irritation or dryness.
Our Peel For Face & Body Exfoliation product helps to exfoliate your face and body, so you can enjoy baby smooth skin from head to toe. It is infused with marine minerals and key ingredients like Atelocollagen and Alpha-Arbutin to brighten the skin, promote natural cell turnover and provide anti-ageing benefits.
3. Keep up with the product shelf life
When you have more than one cleanser, it’s important to take note of the adjustment period for your skin to get used to the produce and product results. Otherwise, you may never know if it’s the culprit behind your small breakouts or it’s not giving you the results you desire.
At the same time, be mindful of the shelf life of your cleansers – most skin care products are good for 6 to 12 months after opening. Check the back of the bottle or the box for the expiry label, or look for a jar icon that lets you know how many months of years the product will be good for after opening. As such, you will have a better idea on how to prioritise which cleanser and switch them up regularly to finish them before the listed date.
Final note
With that said, avoid constantly throwing random products in and out of your daily regime. You should always give your skin time to react to the ingredients. As such, it is best to allow time for around 2 weeks instead of switching cleansers daily to find out whether one works better over time, and to address your changing needs.
While it is not necessary to stick to a specific product every day and night, there is no harm in rotating cleansers as they serve a purpose to help you achieve your skin goals. Plus, you can find a few staples to switch up and help curate a perfect routine that works best for you.
