HDB Home Renovation: 5 Ways To Saving Costs

A quick look at the first HDB renovation package that you see will tell you just how expensive the average renovation project can be.

But, don’t worry. Even if the figure can be quite daunting, there are ways to lower the cost without necessarily sacrificing the output quality. All you need to do is to do your research right and make the right choices.

Below are a couple of HDB home makeover tips for those with an ultra-light budget.

1.    Don’t renovate everything all at once

As tempting as it is to renovate your entire living space, it would be more practical to split it into multiple phases and projects. This way, you can manage your finances better and allow a proper budget for each project.

Prioritise the most important aspects of your HDB home, focus on them, and then finish it. Afterwards, work on the next. This way, you can slowly work on your HDB home and feel like you’re making progress.

2.    Switch to vinyl flooring

Perhaps the most expensive part of your home renovation project is the flooring.

Ceramic, parquet, luxe marble, and so on, aren’t cheap. Not to mention, installation costs are quite expensive either. So, what do you do? Well, you can switch to vinyl flooring.

If you want to change your floor design without necessarily having to splurge and make it still look good, vinyl is the way to go. You can even install it yourself with little to no prior experience, provided that you do your research right.

Of course, if you really want to save costs, you can just polish your existing floor. You’d be surprised as to how differently your flooring will look will a little bit of care.

3.    You don’t always need to hack away

Part of the costs of installing new flooring is removing the old ones. The truth though, is that you don’t always need to do that, especially if you plan on using vinyl flooring.

You can put vinyl flooring on top of your old flooring and it will work wonders still.

Overlaying is particularly useful for bathrooms where you may have to do some waterproofing first if you had to hack away at the old tile flooring.

4.    Use paint

As nice as it would have been to put on nice wallpapers on your walls, or something crafty, it’s not always practical.

Painting is a nice alternative that looks good, is easy to maintain, and more importantly, affordable.

A feature wall, or a painted graphic wall, even if you hire someone to do it for you, will cost you significantly less compared to wallpapers and craft stones. The best part? Painted feature walls can look just as good if not better!

5.    Go green

There are plenty of reasons why you might want to think about starting to have plants in your home. They don’t even need to be the expensive or hard-to-maintain either.

The thing about plants is that they help remove air pollutants while also adding a splash of green inside your home – quite literally. Not to mention, they’re a great way to cool down your house, if only ever so slightly.

Using these tips, and a bit of research to find an affordable HDB renovation package that works with your budget, your HDB home should be looking quite as good as new in no time!
