There was a fire outbreak at Golden Mile Complex on Sunday (Dec 20) in morning; therefore, the building was vacated.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) stated that the fire has destroyed the scattered items that were left on staircase on the second floor of the Beach Road Mall creating an alert around 7 a.m. However, there was no casualty.
A provision shop owner disclosed to Shinn Min Daily News that he was told to vacate the building by the SCDF officers when he resumed for work around 7 a.m. He further stated that the entire building was consumed in flames. Only a few people were in the mall as at the time of the incident because shops were yet to open.
Another eyewitness stated that the fire alarm went off, and he saw thick smoke come out from the staircase landing on the second floor. The man is an employee at a travel agency on the first floor that is nearby the staircase base, he narrated to Lianhe Wanbao. He also stated that about 20 persons waiting to board a coach parked close to the staircase base were taken away from the scene.
